Doctor Frankenstein by George Allison - October 2023 Ocean County College
What if Mary Shelley lied - on Purpose? His life’s work laid to waste by Shelley’s vindictive novel, Dr. Victor Frankenstein summons an audience of ghosts to an operating theatre to present his side of the story in a bid to salvage his name and reputation. This new riff on the classic Frankenstein story is not an adaption. It's a new perspective, told by the real Dr. Frankenstein, whose career, life and legacy were destroyed by Mary Shelley's "tall tale." Her story has lived on, been spun into plays, movies, musicals - while his name has been smeared with the label of madness.
Mr. Toole by in association with Lagniappe Productions, March 2020 - 59e59 Theatres
Award-winning playwright Vivian Neuwirth creates a deeply personal reflection on the life of John Kennedy Toole, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, A Confederacy of Dunces. Before he was an author, John Kennedy Toole was a teacher. That’s how Lisette, one of his students at an all-girl’s college in New Orleans, knew him and loved him. Through her eyes, amid the music, magic, and mystery of The Big Easy we, too, learn to love “Mr. Toole.” The teacher a student will never forget becomes a legend the world will always remember.

Articulating the Arts is about provoking a conversation on the arts via other arts. A way of using the art of theatre to comment upon, or respond to, another type of art. Our playwrights, actors, directors and designers, plus guest artists, come together to write and perform one-acts based on their response to the works of art, such as classic painting, poetry, fashion, etc. We've held many events based on this idea already. You can learn more about them by clicking on the event titles below.
