Our History
ATC got its start in January of 2013, in New York City, when director Cat Parker called together 40+ colleagues and floated the idea of a theatre company to them. The discussion was passionate, smart, civilized and overwhelmingly positive. So we had our "what." In February, we met again to discuss our "how." The business minded folks came together to mold a plan for the company, and the creatives started discussing potential projects and productions. In March we were invited to present a production at the Planet Connections Festival, and in May we opened our 'soft launch' production, Dragon by Jenny Connell Davis. In June we were honored with 9 nominations for that production, and in August we took home 2 of those awards, as well as a special "Greener Planet" award for our eco-friendly set design.
In September we settled in to do a little more internal structuring - inviting in a few new members, and constructing some events to showcase our company members. For October 2013, we held a Company Mingle that also paid tribute to Seamus Heaney, the brilliant poet who sadly passed away that summer. In November, we performed that tribute again at the Barnes & Noble in Union Square. In March 2014, we debuted what would become our signature event, Articulating the Arts, which showcases the relationship between the art of theatre and the other arts in our culture. Our second Articulating the Arts was held in September of 2014. We held our first showcase production in Spring 2015, and then our third Articulating the Arts in February of 2016. We're on a roll!

Here is a list of our "Founding Members." They are an extraordinary group of people, without whom Articulate Theatre Company would never have grown the way it has. Many are still with us, though some have moved away, or on to projects and careers of their own. ATC remains indebted to them all!
