Working With Us

Articulate Theatre Company is an ensemble group of actors, writers, directors, producers, managers and designers. We work to both produce great theatre and further our members in their craft. Our "dues" are $50 for 6 months or an equitable amount of "sweat equity." We are careful and specific in incorporating new members. If you'd like to be a part of the group, please read the information below, but please note that we don't bring new people in all that often.

Playwrights
A great story is the backbone of every great theatre experience. Have you got a great story? Read on, MacDuff (said no Shakespearean, ever) There are two ways to share your writing with us:

Note: We are not actively looking for or requesting submissions. If and when we do that, we will put out a call. But if you feel like you have THE play and want to send it, please follow the guidelines below.

1. Twice a year we do our "Articulating the Arts" Signature Series, where we invite submissions of 10-minute plays based on the art form we are highlighting at the time. If you wish to be involved with that, please sign up for our mailing list.

2. Follow the steps below to submit your script info. Yes, it's detailed, but will help trim to scripts to which we are actually able to commit. Emailed .pdf versions are fine. Please do not send hard copies. NOTE: We do not promise a response to your submission.
  • Synopsis - Please send a comprehensive synopsis of your play. Not a marketing blurb, but the plot outline and point of the play.
  • Please tell us if your play has been previously produced, and if so, when/where. Note that this is not a disqualification criteria.
  • Our motto is "Myth, Magic & the Mundane." Please take a look at this page for more info, and then let us know how you think your play fits under this umbrella.
  • Design requirements - Not what would be nice - what is REQUIRED. We have some incredible designers, so don't let this one throw you.
  • Cast size and breakdown. Please specify if there are any special casting requirements, such as "needs to be able to sing, know sign language, etc." We like scripts that can be cast with a majority of our ensemble members. Take a look at them here, and then decide if at least 60% of your roles can be cast from them. We are working to increase our diversity, but also want to work with our current membership.
  • Script - Email your BLIND script please. Send entire script or a sample, your choice.
  • Goals - Tell us your hopes for the play - what audience, what result, what level.
  • What are your resources. - do you know someone that can back it? Do you have a  relationship with a venue?
  • Does the play come with any commitments or attachments? - are there any promises to certain actors, directors etc? Note - this can be an asset, so don't feel bad about stating it.
  • What genre(s)  does your play belong to? Is it topical? Does it reference a specific community?
  • How long is your play? Is there an intermission?
  • Your resume.

Actors
Articulate is an ensemble and we have an obligation to our existing members, so we are particular about bringing in new actors. However, no organization succeeds without incorporating new blood, so we do keep our eyes open. There are two ways to become a member of Articulate's acting ensemble:

1. Twice a year we do our "Articulating the Arts" Signature Series, where we have auditions for roles that cannot be cast from our ensemble. To be notified of these auditions, please sign up for our mailing list.

2. Once a month we have our Artists Salons. These are not open to the public. Sometimes we bring new actors in to join in cold readings of new scripts. The best way to be invited to participate is to have a member sponsor you in. Contact a member to see if they're willing to bring you in. If you don't know any of our members, please email a headshot/resume to ArticulateATC@gmail.com. Please note that you probably will not hear back from us right away. But hey, it's worth a try, right?

Directors/Designers
As mentioned above, Articulate is an ensemble, and we have directors and designers within our Company. Our first obligation is to them, but we are also interested in working with new artists. Our "Articulating the Arts" signature series have always incorporated outside directors and designers. If you are interested in working with us, please email us at ArticulateATC@gmail.com with some information about you. We are especially interested in artists who can help our current membership grow, so experienced directors/designers who are involved with other projects are especially welcome. Our acting company is very experienced and talented - we think you'll enjoy working with them!
